Road to Hautacam It was a cold wet winter when I decided that we were going to do the “Etape de Tour” in 2008.  Many cold dark mornings later I packed up my bike and we set off on the Eurostar bound for Pau.

Last Days

Life is good
 
The best of Sardegna remains close to shore. Swimming off the rocks or boating around to one of the less accessible coves delivered the best rewards.  
 
Inland the the countryside is hot and dry with not a tree to provide a smudge of shade, with Africa and the Sahara only 160kms away the barren

Avoid Sundays
 
However by Sunday the place was absolutely overrun.  In true Italian style the beach and the whole cove was full of boats and every inch of sand was covered with a towel and shaded by an umbrella.  Needless to say we stayed at home.
